MY HEARTFELT THANKS
TO DR. IYER

When you speak of Dr. Iyer -
This is someone to admire.
If a TAVR is what you need
He’s the one to do the deed.

It will be done with expertise
Quite remarkable to believe.
It was very plain to see
That this valve was destined for me.

So, it would be a crying shame,
Not to give the valve a name -
I think it would not be too hard
To formally name it - “Sir Edward”

What an adventure this is to tell -
The valve and I get along very well.
So “thanks” with all my (new improved) heart -
This idea was very smart!!

February is Heart Health Month - Dr. Vijay Iyer urges people to pay attention to your heart symptoms.

Dr. Vijay Iyer, MD, Director of Cardiology, discusses the importance of taking care of your heart during this pandemic, and why it’s important not to ignore signs and symptoms.

Buffalo Healthy Living Cover

Dr. Vijay Iyer, an interventional cardiologist with Great Lakes Cardiovscular, is featured in the current issue of Buffalo Healthy Living. The article explores a series of potentially life-saving clinical trials Dr. Iyer is conducting.

Gates Vascular Institute (GVI) has successfully completed its one thousandth transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive procedure that delivers a fully collapsible replacement valve to a damaged heart valve site. The 1000thpatient is 87-year-old war veteran Santi Corbelli of Williamsville, who was able to leave the hospital one day after the procedure.

Some of the most common issues affecting people worldwide are aortic stenosis (narrowing or obstruction of the aortic valve), atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm), and degenerative mitral regurgitation (connective tissue of the mitral valve causes lesions preventing normal heart function). Now, more than ever, the following minimally invasive technologies are saving and improving lives.

Dr Iyer, an interventional cardiologist with Great Lakes Cardiovascular, explains how they treat blockages in arteries and the minimally invasive procedures available.
